You Can’t Fix A Bad Wedding Reception

Yes, there are wedding vendors that appear to be a good deal, just like $6 haircuts. Many wedding vendors claim to do the exact same thing as the more expensive service, just like the $6 haircut chain. With a haircut, when you realize it’s bad,  you can spend a little more money and go across the street and get it fixed. In the case of a wedding reception there are no do-overs. By the time you realize the DJ isn’t very good, it’s too late.  By the time you get your pictures back the event is over. The same can be said for your video. When selecting vendors for your wedding just realize if the price is too good to be true it probably is.

Oops I Did It Again

No, I’m not talking about that Brittney Spears song.

Last month I completed the Professional Process Disc Jockey and Master of Ceremonies training for the second time. The first time I took the course was two years ago and I had to fly out to LA for a few days to do so. This time I was able to attend in Louisville.

I’m committed to being the best I can be and seeking out real training for the benefit of my clients. So many DJs just go buy equipment and copy what they saw at a wedding. Most DJs are hobbiest. This is my full time profession.

Would you want an attorney who watched a few episodes of ‘Law and Order’ or one who actually went to Law school?
How about an ER doctor who had just been to the ER a whole lot and thought “that looks easy enough give me a stethascope?” It’s not life or death but it is the biggest day of your life. So why leave it in the hands of a computer programmer or salesman who DJs on the weekends? I’m here and I’m a great investment in your day.

Brandon receives his second Professional Process Certificate.

Cincinnati Wedding DJ: Places We’ve Played: Royal Oak Country Club

If you are looking for a Country Club wedding on the east side of town, check out Royal Oak. You can get married outside beside a lake, have beautiful golf course photos, have a classy dinner in a room with a view and dance the night away with Hey! Mr. DJ Entertainment.

Roayl Oak is just a few minutes off of 275 on Route 125 near between Anderson and Amelia. My experiances there have been fantastic. Just recently I was there for Crista and Eric’s reception. An alcohol free wedding with a packed dance floor and tons of fun. I was also there for Tara and Brian’s wedding. A tropical themed wedding featuring Leilani A luau dancer who also sings, who perofrmed for part of dinner.  The place looked AMAZING!

Here are some photos from those events.

High School Sweethearts Matt & Jenn

Last night Matt & Jenn got married. They first met in Jr. High Band. They Began dating as juniors in high school and even dated long distance for 5 years. We were thrilled to provide the entertainment. From a customized entrance to a great centerpiece giveaway to a packed dance floor to a surprise emotional last dance it was one amazing night. The Heritage Club staff was on top of everything. Brian from Images by Daniel Michael is always great to work with. It all came together last night. Here are some of my iPhone pictures.

Rob and Laura’s Wedding Wonderland

There are not too many places in Cincinnati for a wedding reception with the character of 20th Century Theatre.  It made the perfect setting for Rob and Laura’s reception which took place December 20th 2008.  A big thanks to Brian at 20th Century. Also a big thanks to the ladies at Your Dream Day for helping makes things run so smoothly.

Laura wanted a princess theme and we made sure she was treated like a princess as well. Rob a former college DJ wanted the dance floor packed and for Laura to have the day she had always dreamed of.  You see Rob had started the princess theme many months before when he asked Laura to Marry him.  They had taken a trip to Disney World for her birthday. Rob set dinner reservations for Cinderella’s Castle that evening. As dinner wound down the fireworks over the castle began lighting up the sky. Just then the waiter delivered a glass slipper to their table, inside was the engagement ring. Rob was so nervous he forgot to get on one knee. Laura didn’t even notice. She was shaking as he explained he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. She of course said yes and the plans for this big day began to unfold.

Here are the results!

Reception Tip #3 – Prioritize

Chances are your wedding reception is the biggest most expensive party you will ever throw. By definition you will be entertaining all of the most important people in your life. Decide what is most important to you about this party. Is it the decorations? Is it the food? Is it the fun? Once you have decided what your priorities are, focus your attention and money on that one thing first. Then if you have to cut your budget in other areas at least you are not cutting what is most important to you.

Our services at Hey! Mr. DJ Entertainment are not cheap but we are a great value. If your priority is food and you want your reception to revolve around your guests enjoying different foods and flavors then maybe we are not in your budget. If you need a 40 foot stretch hummer to ride from the church to the reception and would prefer to spend more on that and save on your entertainment then maybe we are not right for you.

However, If you want your guests to say things like “Best reception ever”, “Other receptions have paled in comparison”, “We had so much fun” then maybe we are for you. It’s important to understand that like all limos are not the same and all chef’s are not the same all DJs and MCs are not the same either. Choose wisely if entertainment is a priority for you.

Here is the prefect example.

The above video was shot in September of 2007 at one of the nicer venues in Cincinnati. Both parties started at 8:00. I remember being a little jealous of the DJ who was hired for the other party because the room was decorated so wonderfully. It was just gorgeous. At 11:30 I went to take a look at how their party was going. Sadly it was not going. What if they had spent less on centerpieces and a little more on entertainment? There are no second chances in this business.
